Lovely Lanzarote

Searching for a sizzling summer holiday destination? Or a warm getaway for the drab winter months? Somewhere with great beaches, friendly resorts and plenty of things to see, do and experience? Look no further than Lanzarote. When it comes to fabulous holiday destinations that can cater to multiple tastes, this versatile Canary Island ticks all the right boxes... and then some.

It has a fascinating lunar-like landscape, born out of fiery volcanic eruptions thousands of years ago that has left a legacy of bizarre twisting rock formations, craggy terrain, black volcanic sands and deep echoing caves. There's always something to see, something to explore - and that's what makes Lanzarote such a great place to visit.

And what's more, holidays here don't hav
e to cost the earth. If you're after cheap holidays to Lanzarote, you'll find plenty of great deals all over the web. Just look for low-cost scheduled flights heading off to Arrecife and book your own accommodation direct. If you do choose to book your hotel and flight separately, make sure you do so well in advance, otherwise it can get expensive.

The same can also be said for package holidays, to an extent. The general rule is that if you're booking a package holiday, you will often bag a great deal by booking well in advance and snapping up the tour operators' early bird discounts. That way you'll also have longer to pay off the cost of your holiday, so it's usually a good all-rounder.

However some of the best tour operators' deals - such as the cheapest discount Thomas Cook holidays - are often found just before your departure date. Search a few weeks before you intend to travel and look out for great cut-price discounts on popular holiday destinations, including Lanzarote. You could snap up a fantastic bargain, which will make your holiday that bit more special.

Guest Blogger: A Hen Weekend Itinerary: Vintage Bristol.

Guest blogger, written by Catherine Lavinia

Planning a hen weekend can be masses of fun if you don’t get snowed under with the organisation. Whether the bride is your best friend, your sister or another relative, treat the job as an honour, not a chore. There’s no pleasing everyone – it’s all about compromise; it’s your job to create the best of both worlds and in Bristol that is completely achievable.

The city is booming with activities and nightlife to keep a hen weekend satisfied. You can find some excellent cheap hotels in Bristol that will not only base you in close proximity to activities, bars and restaurants but also allow you to make great savings that will please the more frugal of guests.

A hen weekend in Bristol will require precision planning to ensure you can cram as much as possible without exhausting everybody.

Day 1: Break the Ice

If you’re travelling to a hen weekend on a Friday – particularly if you’re not able to get there until after work - the last thing you want is for the main revelries to kick start. Ease the girls in gently – use the evening as a “getting to know you session” – chances are not every lady there will know everyone else, so utilise this time to break the ice. Use hen party games and cocktails, for example.

Alternatively, how about a trip to the theatre to get the ball rolling? The Full Monty is on at the Hippodrome in March, which will certainly get the good times started!

Day 2: The Main Event

This is the main day, so make use of every minute of it. For the vintage fans, today would be a fantastic time to enjoy afternoon tea. Browns, in Clifton, offers fabulous packages including a champagne afternoon tea for £23.95.

Follow this with an activity to get your girls in the mood for an evening of splendour. How about a burlesque class or a lesson in swing dancing? You could even theme the whole day to incorporate the dress code.

Stay in the city for your evening meal. Head to the riverside and enjoy a three course meal at the beautiful Hole in the Wall. A traditional pub with the added luxury of quality fine food, it’ll start the evening off nicely.

Finish the evening with a bar crawl. From live jazz at The Old Duke to 80s cheese at Reflex, there’s plenty of bars and clubs to visit. Contact them in advance to let them know you’re coming – you could even opt for a VIP booth or something equally luxurious.

Day 3: Chill Out

Depending on how heavy last night was, you’re probably going to want to relax a little bit today, but that doesn’t mean you should be lazy.

Hop on the train to nearby Bath for a little elegance and chic, and enjoy a couple of hours in the thermal spas. You can enjoy access to thermal pools and steam rooms for £26 for two hours, or treat yourself to treatments for slightly extra. Bliss.

Enjoy organising the bride-to-be’s hen do and be proud that you are the one who made it unforgettable. Start your plans today and book some budget accommodation in the heart of Bristol.
